Chromium significantly improves high and low temperature corrosion resistance by forming a stable chromium oxide film. Chromium readily forms carbides acting as a solid solution strengthener and improves high temperature creep strength. Chromium alloys readily with cobalt in cobalt alloys providing oxidation and corrosion resistance.
